  1. good age is probally 18-up

    a good outfit?

    A easy dress and a hat :)

    yellow would stand out

and maybe the hat should look extravagant

IT MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE :D

  2. i've never been the the actual melbourne cup but i've been to a few of the other spring racing carnival days like derby day and stakes day.

a lot of my friends have been going to these since they were like 10 so i wouldnt say there is a specific age, it just means that if you are under 18 you can't bet or anything

i started going when i was in yr 8, its a lot of fun especially if you get a big group of you together

and as to what to wear, i think the tickets specifically state that you have to be dressed properly eg no thongs no tank tops blah blah blah if you look on the website it will probably tell you

but more girls wear dresses and nice shoes

the whole point is really an excuse to dress up

    its a lot of fun

also, yes, mainly the rich do go. but there is a members section and a general admission section its only the members bit thats really exclusive and full of rich people

  3. General admission ticket prices are $60 or $48 student concession and must be pre purchased. All ages go, but from about 16 up is best and 18+ of course means you can bet and have some champagne to round out the day. http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/melbourne...

The best way to go is by train which stops right at the course. Special race trains will depart Flinders Street (Platforms 8 & 9), stopping at Southern Cross station (Platform 14) and North Melbourne (Platform 6), then express to Flemington. Make sure you have a valid Metcard for your journey. You can also drive or taxi it, but the traffic can be horrendous and the car parks for the hoi polloi are a long way from the course.

What to wear? Most girls 'play ladies' at the Melbourne Cup. You probably can't hope to compete with the socialites who spend many thousands on their outfits, but wear something nice and stylish with a fascinator or hat. Guys wear a suit or some even hire top hat and tails, though I've always thought they look silly. Some people dress for shock value - anything goes really. Make sure your shoes are comfortable though! You'll do a lot of walking.

A lot of rich people go, but so do thousands of other people, rich, poor and in between. It's a fantastic experience and everyone should go at least once. The horses are magnificent, the racecourse is absolutely beautiful and the people and their antics are incredible. Go with a group of friends; dress up (you don't need to spend a fortune on an outfit) and have a marvellous time.

  4. I wouldn't go to the races any younger then 18.

A nice floral flowy dress with comfortable but stylish heels, a facitor, a shrug for if it gets cold. And dress appropriately if it rains.

There are places at every race course for all, from families to seniors, wealthy to poor. If you stay around the public bar and nearby areas you will fit in fine, avoid the private dining areas and balconies.

Many people don't actually bet, they just go for a good time.

  5. Ticket prices for this years Melbourne Cup

    Adult $60

    Student $48

    Pensioner $28

Children U15 accompanied by an adult $10

You can not just walk up to Flemington on the day and buy a ticket. All tickets must be pre-purchased through www.ticketmaster.com.au after the 1st August

I've been to two Melbourne Cups and they are an event. Even though the ticket prices seem to have gone through the roof since I last went (after all, you're paying money just to get inside to have the opportunity to lose more money) I'm sure you'll have a good time and everyone should see at least one Melbourne Cup if they have the opportunity.

The Melbourne Cup is uniquely Australian
