Melbourne ground hopeful for record crowd on ‘Boxing day’
Following a dismal performance by the Englishmen who were completely outdone by the formidable Aussies, it is now expected that the crowd numbers will soar as Australia has now effectively drawn the series 1-1 with two Test matches to go. Their comeback
was truly spectacular and despite all the criticism lately, everyone was quick to spring up and state, ‘see, we told ya so!’ Mitchell Johnsons remarkable comeback in the third test after being out of the public eye for the second has without a doubt been the
highlight of WACA. The Australian’s are back and seem h**l bent to take revenge from the complacent Barmy Army.
Keeping in mind this rivalry, it is now expected that the ticket sales will rise up to 90,000. The record attendance in cricket for a single match was 90,800 people back in 1961 however this record could well be broken as the ticket sales have significantly
increased. The first day of the Melbourne Test or commonly known as boxing day, is perhaps one of the greatest occasions of Australian sport which is why hopes are high for a record crowd attendance.
"We knew that day one would be very strong, the ticket sales have indicated a plus-80,000 crowd. But we will now do all we can to ensure that all seats that are available are taken. I think the high 80s, perhaps even up to 90,000, will certainly be a chance," Cricket
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 chief Tony Dodemaide told a local newspaper.
The first day of the Melbourne test has been known to attract a good crowd, however with this highly exciting contest reaching its climax, and with Australia basking high in confidence, interest in the match could reach fever pitch.
"The success of the match is so much more enhanced when there's context. If the series had've been gone, Australia not being able to win the Ashes, then it would have affected the appeal of the match in total, aside from the first day. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 is now going
in with momentum, I think it will create a lot of buzz," Dodemaide went on to say. Attendance has been good in the first three Test matches with record first day attendance at Perth in over a century.
