Melbourne or Brisbane?

Which one of Melbourne and Brisbane do you think is the best one to live and work in? (I'm a 18 years old, newly educated engineer from Sweden)

You can think about:

- Weather

- How are the peoples (rude/friendly...)

- Cost of living (Houseprices, restaurants stores etc)

- Jobs (less, middle or a lot?)

- Nightlife?

Thanks in advance!

  1. The weather is ALOT better in Brisbane. (warmer generally, more predictable too).

People are probably the same. (Friendly)

    Cheaper in Brisbane.

Possibly the same for jobs not exactly sure, reasons I can think of why either would be larger.

Nightlife, Melbourne may have more, although the weather is going to be better in Brisbane, so moving around at night is more pleasant. There's also the Gold Coast not that far from Brisbane either which is a fairly big tourist spot.

If you're going to live for a decent period of time I'd say Brisbane is better easily.

  2. I live in Brisbane and love Melbourne and visit there several times a year.

The weather in Brisbane is much, much better than in Melbourne. Melbourne's weather isn't as bad as people say it is, but it is very changeable and is a lot colder in winter and terribly hot in summer - much hotter than Brisbane.

Housing will be a little cheaper in Brisbane, but there won't be much in it. Cost of living will be a little better in Brisbane, but again, there won't be much difference.

Melbourne is a larger city, but Queensland's economy is in much better shape than Victoria's. I think an engineer would do well in either city, though 18 is very young to have degree qualifications and that will be what's required.

The nightlife is Brisbane is good, but it's much better in Melbourne, though Brisbane is only an hour away from the Gold Coast with its gereat nightlife. Dining out is good in Brisbane, but again, it's better in Melbourne.

Either city is great, but if you're really into year 'round outdoor activities and the beach, go for Brisbane. Otherwise, Melbourne is definitely the place to go.

  3. melbourne is bigger and there are probably more opportunities in melbourne but the weather is unpredictable. the people are mostly friendly. i'd recommend melbourne to you.

  4. If it was me...I would do Brisbane. Everyone else seemed to answer cost of living and etc...but I think waking up every morning to go to work in Brisbane would give me more satisfaction. Gold Coast is right there, Paradise.
