Melbourne or Perth?

Question

i am from nz and am moving to aussie later on in the year. i have lived in melbourne before but think perth might be better. has anyone lived in both cities? which one do you prefer?

My son's in Perth at the moment.He and ten mates are back packing round Oz.He really likes the relaxed atmosphere of Perth.

Perth is much more laid back and the people are much friendlier. I was born and lived in melbourne when younger and go back a lot to visit my family but after living the life in the paradise of Perth there is no way i could live in Melbourne.

Perth is more of a laid back quiet type city, where as Melbourne has much more going on, especially in terms of nightlife...

So it depends on what your after. I prefer perth, it's much sunnier!

and perth is more friendly

try going on holiday to each place

dont buy rent until you know the areas ok

It really depends what you're interested in - Perth would be great if you're mainly interested in making money and sunbaking.  Melbourne caters to a wider variety of tastes, being far bigger and more sophisticated than Perth.  Melb you would know has ethnic diversity, lots of good restaurants and cafes, nightlife, lots going on artistically, etc, etc.
