Melbourne or Sydney?

Question

I am in a pickle!

I am not sure whether to go to Melbourne or Sydney for my birthday/holiday.

I have never been too either and I just cannot decide.

I am from QLD.

Does anyone have any good information about accomodation, what too do etc?

so much to do

sydney is okay if you want to see things like the harbour bridge or opera house

but i think thats boring

i had to go to sydney with my parents

suchh a total boorree. we just went up a tall building, went on a boat, looked at the bride and looked at the opera house.

not much fun :)

Sydney is more American, similar to Gold Coast whilst Melb. is more European and cultural. You seem to be  vulgar and material who don't mind talking about your parents splashing out  $2000 for 18 year old.

I guess you would enjoy Sydney more.

I like Sydney more than Melbourne. You can spend a nice day just walking around the central city, from the opera house to the park. The rocks area should have free music and enterntainment. Of course you can visit Manly and Bondi beaches.

There are lots of things better about melbourne, but they are harder to find and enjoy. Melbourne cafes and pubs are some how magically better, especially if you live in melbourne, but not such an interesting place for the casual visitor.

If you are a party girl, then finding the cool night scene in Sydney is a little hard. The cool night spots more around so find some local street press and see.

For cheap accommodation try a back packers hotel, but not in the inner city but head out to the bondi area.

Alterntaively, a motel or hotel on the beach won't break your budget and you can go for a dawn swim.

So yeah, sydney for location, melbourne is a place people go to do specific things, so find out what shows (especially comedy) are on and it could be a more interesting experience.

Melbourne is sick as. Best for shopping and nightlife. Casino is super, if your into gambling. Visit www.visitmelbourne.com, it has everything you need. Also use sites such as wotif.com and lastminute.com for accommodation as you can get something real good for real cheap. Have fun and have a lovely birthday.

Sydney would be better for clubbing and nightlife.. Melbourne is better for shopping.

Depends what your most interested in. Sydney would probably be cheaper for airfares, I know Virginblue had $49 one way from Sydney to Coolongatta.

If you go to Melbourne I recommend staying at the Quest on Burke.

Melbourne all the way, im sooooo mot a fan of sydney, melbourne has more history amazing walks, sooooooooooooooooooooooooo many bars, clubs and pubs. And most of all the people are alot nicer and friendlier in Melbourne.

People in Sydney are always in a ruch, reminded me to much of England.

I stayed at Global backpackers on Victoria street, great hostel, stayed there for 6 MONTHS!!!!

There is always thing to do in Melbourne, from sightseeing, to going to the casino, to the markets, shopping, eating and of course drinking.

And alot of the musuems and stuff is free.
