I would like to hear your thoughts on

1) Coaching

2) Backline

3) Midfield

4) Forward Lines

5) What sort of players do they need to get and get rid off?

I'll go first

I don't think Bailey is the coach for the team. Seems to lack abit of passion, leadership and tactics

Backline is disorganised. They have got some good taggers but the coach needs to empower them abit more.

Midfield - not alot to talk about here other than Sylvia and McLean

Forward line - the only word here is Wonaemaerri

Yze must go.

  1. The best way they can improve is to recruit well... hopefully if the recruiting staff are no good, they will be replaced!

  2. I'm not biased, and I think that all Melbourne need is some passion, hunger and leadership. Sure, their skills do need improving, but the Demons have shown that they have the potential to win games (Against Freo, Collingwood, Hawthorn, etc).

  3. They just have no structure. And are low on confidence

I think they need a true Australian hero like Ben cousins to inspire them. Becuase he inspires me! I cant wait to he coms back to play AFL he is my hero and i wana grow up to be just like him one day

  4. i will preface this by saying i am not a melbourne supporter, so i feel i can look at this situation rather objectively:

    1) coaching - i agree with your criticism of dean bailey, but i reckon he needs more time. the list he has right now isnt great (lets be honest) and i dont think a veteran coach could take them to the finals in the next 2-3 years. I think his commitment is there, but perhaps not leadership - but i think that will come with time (and experience in the job).

    2) backline - was never particularly good even in their heyday. they persevered with nathan carroll for far too long but colin garland seems a find. james frawley, matthew whelan and robert warnock are noteworthy too. jared rivers has been ok too, not rising star form though.

    3) i reckon their young midfield is not bad - bate, mclean, sylvia, morton, jones, bartram and lynden dunn. future is bright

    4) fwd line is ok with neitz and robertson firing. with neitz now retired and robertson with a long-term injury, they are relying on the brad's (green and miller) to kick goals, as well as crumbers wonamirri (dont know how to spell that) and davey. prob need another tall fwd like your tim boyle (hawks) type.

    5) they need key positions, and fast. they have none. wheres the spine? there are always some good ones in the draft however they often take a few yrs to develop (exception = m.kreuzer).

  5. Generally club spirit and management plus early draft picks. Not a Melbourne supporter but considering the players are still early 20's with a few exceptions I guess it is hard to get up for a game with the club in turmoil and negative press every week. Jimmy as President is a good start, supporters turning out also good. (Queens b'day a disgrace).

  6. Everywhere

  7. The obvious answer - They could improve by winning..

Coaching - I cant pick on him too much, their is worse coaching styles and attitude out there by far..

Back line - Yeah gotta agree with you a little unorganised but you can see the potential wen its working for em.

Mid field and Forwards - I believe this is where they break down and its becos they lack a confident structure they can rely on, to kick those quick replies or final couple to put them over the finish line..

Over all I dont believe Demons play like a bottom 3team.. more like 11th but with out that bit of luck (magic) on their side..

They can play very intense football..

Just missing a real star to lead them..

  8. Diplomacy and gaining respect.

First of all they have to understand that it is a national game now, not the VFL still.

Their new Pres wants to realise that Melbourne and a few other teams probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the interstate (intruders) license fees propping them up.

I felt sorry for Melbourne until his great speech, I was even thinking about purchasing a membership, now I couldn't care less if they survive or not.

  9. They need to start playing with passion like they have a few times this year. Also some better players and a better coach would be handy.
