Melinda Czink strains past Kathrin Woerle in the qualifying draw – e-Boks Open 2012
Seeded at number two in the qualifying draw, Melinda Czink had to go through a rough ride before outplaying the unseeded German opponent, Kathrin Woerle, in the second round qualifier of the e-Boks Open on Sunday. 29-year-old Hungarian
took one hour and 48 minutes to settle the three-setter at 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, to move into the qualifying competition of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event in Farum, Denmark.
Czink leads 2-0 in the head-to-head series against Woerle on WTA Tour and her Sunday’s victory wasn't any different to the prior two encounters. She was one set down early in the contest but reeled off the following two sets with
commanding ease to turn the tables on her opponent. The 29-year-old veteran is 11-9 this season and needs just one more victory to make it to the main rounds of the e-Boks Open.
The second seed delivered 66 per cent of her serve on target, clinching 43 out of 61 first serve points in the match. She suffered three out of eight serve breaks from her opponent but came up with five out of seven break point
conversions to take the better of her in the last two sets. She secured 21 out of 52 points on her return game and kept winning crucial points to claim victory eventually.
The opening set witnessed an early onslaught from Woerle, who quickly went into a 5-1 lead with two successive serve breaks. The German dropped her serve in the eighth game but sustained her lead to close out the first set at 6-4
to get one up in the matchup.
Czink dropped her serve in the very first game of the following set but came up with two back-to-back serve breaks to take the upper hand at 4-1. Woerle couldn’t recover from the early damage done by her opponent and kept lingering
in the remaining set to lose it at 3-6.
The decisive set saw a conventional start, with both players holding their serves in the opening four games. Czink finally delivered a crucial blow in the fifth game to break into lead and went on to conclude victory at 6-2. She
will face the unseeded Swiss opponent, Amra Sadikovic, in the qualifying competition of the tournament. Sadikovic overcame the unseeded Russian opponent, Arina Rodionova, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, in the second round qualifier to book a date with second
seed Czink for a spot in the main rounds of the e-Boks Open.
