Melisa Mexia wins Women’s 200m butterfly gold medal: Day two – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals, Clovis
Melisa Mexia of Unat-SI earned the gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly meet, on day two of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals, taking place in Clovis, on Thursday, July 21, 2011.
The 17-year-old Mexia claimed the title of the event in an astounding time of 2 minutes and 15.68 seconds. Mexia, who qualified as the fourth fastest swimmer into the finals, excelled her performance in the final round to clinch the title. She was followed
by Ella Eastin of NOVA-CA, who remained only 0.80 seconds slower than Mexia and occupied the podium for silver medal, by posting a time of 2 minutes and 16.48 seconds.
The third spot on the podium was secured by Rachel O’Brien of Terrapins Swim Team, who stayed only 0.19 seconds behind Eastin and posted a time of 2 minutes and 16.67 seconds.
The fourth fastest spot of the 200m event was secured by O’Brien’s team-member, Chelsea Chenault, who stayed only 0.48 seconds behind her team-mate and submitted time of 2 minutes and 17.15 seconds. In the meantime, Nicole Antoniuk of CANY-CA followed Chenault
on the concluding wall as the fifth finest swimmer, as she stayed exactly one second behind her and posted a time of 2 minutes and 18.15 seconds. Kathryn Davey of Ripon Aquatics-P was the sixth best swimmer of the butterfly event, as she proved her eligibility
for the spot, by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 18.28 seconds.
She was followed by K T Livingstone of CANY-CA, who remained almost three seconds behind the sixth finisher and completed her swim in a seventh fastest time of 2 minutes and 21.03 seconds. The final spot of the event was secured by Taylor Guy of Mission
Viejo Na, who remained only 0.21 seconds behind Livingstone and touched the finishing wall to post a time of 2 minutes and 21.24 seconds.
In addition, the arena appreciated the commendable swims of all participants, while the winners received medals for their extraordinary efforts in the final rounds of the event.
