Melissa Franklin dominates Women’s 100m back-stroke meet - ConocoPhillips National Championships
Melissa Franklin of Colorado Stars-C outperformed her competitors in the Women’s 100m back-stroke category on second day of the 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Wednesday, August 3, in Palo Alto, California. ConocoPhillips is the Long Course
USA National Swimming competition, taking place at Stanford University’s Avery Aquatic Centre.
The 16-year-old Franklin, who reached the final as the second fastest qualifying swimmer, overwhelmed the efforts of her fellow swimmers in the final round, by submitting a fastest time of 59.18 seconds for gold medal. She was followed by Rachel Bootsma
of Aquajets Swim Team, who was the third fastest qualifying swimmer and improved her swim in the final to occupy the podium for silver medal, by reporting in a time of 59.65 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena’s favourite, Jennifer Connolly of Tennessee Aquatic, who transpired as the fastest swimmer to qualify for the final round, failed to remove her top spot and ended her swim in a third best time of 1 minute and 00.72 seconds for
bronze medal.
The 21-year-old Connolly was in a lead of only 0.15 seconds over her closest competitors, Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog Swim Club and Elizabeth Pelton of North Baltimore, who ended their swims in a same time of 1 minute and 00.87 seconds for fourth position.
They were followed by Elizabeth Beisel of Bluefish Swim Club, who remained just 0.25 seconds behind the pair of joint finishers and posted a sixth finest time of 1 minute and 01.12 seconds.
Similarly, Cindy Tran of West Coast-CA/Go was just 0.23 seconds behind her preceding finisher and clocked a seventh fastest time of 1 minute and 01.35 seconds. Madison White of Crow Canyon Country Club followed Tran on the finishing wall by producing an
eighth finest time of 1 minute and 01.87 seconds.
Franklin was pleased after securing the title of 100m back-stroke event, whereas, she also expressed her desire of continuing the same at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Furthermore, the winners received medals and accolades for their phenomenal swims after
the session’s completion.
