Melissa Gorman captures Women’s 1500m freestyle gold – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Melissa Gorman of Redcliffe League captured gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle on fourth day of the ongoing 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Sunday, March 18.
The 26-year-old Gorman stunned the aquatic crowd with her impeccable efforts in the thirty-lap freestyle event. She stayed comfortably ahead of her competitors throughout the discipline and faced no trouble in claiming gold medal of the discipline.
With her immaculate efforts, she completed her first round of the discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.32 seconds. her effort remained nearly three seconds ahead of Kareena Lee of Unattached, who finisher her initial 100 metres of the discipline
by posting a time of 1 minute and 05.20 seconds.
Gorman continued her astounding pace in the subsequent rounds as she ended her initial 500 metres of the discipline by producing a time of 5 minutes and 25.94 seconds. She was followed by 18-year-old Lee, who stayed almost thirteen seconds slower from her
former swimmer and covered the equivalent distance with the timing of 5 minutes and 38.14 seconds.
The same continued in subsequent rounds, where Gorman dictated terms to her challengers and completed her 1000 metres of the race by producing a time of 10 minutes and 56.63 seconds. Her scintillating form placed her almost twenty-six seconds ahead of Lee,
who enveloped the similar distance by posting 11 minutes and 22.56 seconds.
Gorman continued her magnificent speed in the last five rounds of the swim, where she showed no mercy to her competitors and ended her race in a time of 16 minutes and 27.50 seconds for gold medal.
The champion remained almost thirty-five seconds ahead of Lee, who followed her on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking an effort of 17 minutes and 05.97 seconds. Subsequently, she remained almost three seconds ahead of Norwood’s Leah Cutting,
who settled on the finishing wall for bronze medal by clocking a time of 17 minutes and 08.86 seconds.
In addition, the position holders collected their accolades at the prize ceremony after the session.
