Melissa Ingram acquires Women’s 200m backstroke title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Melissa Ingram of New Zealand acquired gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on day one of the last stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
Ingram continued her nerve-wrecking efforts in the concluding stop of the World Cup Series and devastated hopes of her opponents by capturing gold medal of the event.
With her invincible efforts in the backstroke discipline, Ingram enjoyed a significant lead over her toughest rival and secured the title by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.93 seconds.
Ingram was traced by Jenny Mensing of Germany, who was 0.81 seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 05.74 seconds.
Mensing was traced by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who stayed 2.06 seconds slower from her and seized third position of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 07.80 seconds.
Hosszu was chased by Polina Lapshina of Russia, who stayed 0.85 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for fourth position by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 08.45 seconds.
Lapshina was chased by Yaping Yu of China, who stayed nearly six seconds slower from her preceding finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.10 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Jacqueline Staples of Australia, who stayed 3.28 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for sixth position by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 17.38 seconds.
Staples was traced by Jing-Wen of Teo of Singapore, who stayed two and a half body length behind and concluded her race in seventh place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 20.00 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was secured by Li Shan Chantal Liew of Singapore, who stayed 7.61 seconds slower and ended her race in a time of 2 minutes and 27.61 seconds.
In addition, Ingram was delighted with her gruelling effort and collected medals and accolades for at the victory ceremony after the event.
