Melissa Ingram claims Women’s 200m backstroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Melissa Ingram of New Zealand claimed gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on initial day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
Ingram demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the distant backstroke discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her impeccable efforts in the eight-lap discipline, Ingram enjoyed a comfortable lead over her opponents and touched the wall for the title by posting a time of 2 minutes and 04.84 seconds.
The champion was followed by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who was two and a half body length behind and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 07.44 seconds.
Hosszu was chased by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed 1.27 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and occupied bronze medal of the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 08.71 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Sandra Hafstrom of Sweden, who was one and a half body length behind and finished her race in a time of 2 minutes and 10.06 seconds.
Hafstrom was traced by Ida Lindborg, who suffered a loss of 0.40 seconds from her foregoing finisher and sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade as fifth best finisher by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 10.46 seconds.
Subsequently, Lindborg enjoyed an advantage of 2.30 seconds over Natalia de Luccas of Brazil, who made her way to the finishing wall as sixth best finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 12.76 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Kira Toussaint of Netherlands, who was almost half a second behind and emerged on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.24 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Isabela Silva of Brazil, who was 1.10 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 14.34 seconds.
In addition, Ingram received a huge round of applause from the crowd for her unmatchable efforts and collected medal after the race.
