Melissa Ingram secures Women’s 200m backstroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Melissa Ingram of New Zealand secured gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
Ingram spoiled the party of her challengers in the distant backstroke discipline as she rushed her way towards the wall for the title. With her immaculate efforts, she stayed in a lead of one stroke over her closest swimmer and outperformed her over the
finishing end for gold medal.
She continued her nerve-wrecking form throughout the discipline and proved her mettle for gold medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 05.35 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained 0.44 seconds faster from Kylie Stewart of USA, who clinched silver medal of the race by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 05.79 seconds.
Stewart was traced by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who stayed 1.50 seconds apart and tapped the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 07.29 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was 0.49 seconds slower from her and appeared on the wall as fourth best finisher with a timing of 2 minutes and 07.78 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Kaitlyn Jones of USA, who was 0.30 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.08 seconds.
Jones was trailed by Valeriia Kolotushkina of Russia, who remained 1.30 seconds slower from improving her position as she completed her race in a time of 2 minutes and 09.38 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh spot of the event was secured by Polina Lapshina of Russia, who was half body length apart and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.82 seconds.
Similarly, Lapshina remained 1.08 seconds ahead of Daria K Ustinova of Russia, who finished her race in eighth place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 10.90 seconds.
In addition, Ingram was happy with her performance and stated that she would continue her hard work to achieve the same in upcoming international events.
