Melissa Reid all set for Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012
English Melissa Reid, who finished the 2011 edition of the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012, is going to take on rivals at the coming edition of the prestigious tournament, set to start from September 13-16,
at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
Reid is among the key players from Europe, which means she will have to put her best foot forward to keep the title within the region. The last two titles were snatched by Yani Tseng.
The field is pretty strong as it is going to feature prominent LPGA (Ladies professional Golf Association) stars. Some of the key contenders confirmed to tee off from September 13 include the current world
number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Laura Davies, Cristie Kerr, Ai Miyazato, Shanshan Feng, Na Yeon Choi and Ji Yai Shin.
Reid has been struggling to prove her mettle at major championships. She mostly plays on the LET (Ladies European Tour) and has maintained a good record. Having grabbed four LET titles, Reid looks all set to
take on rivals at the looming battle at Wirral.
CEO of the LGU (Ladies’ Golf Union) Shona Malcolm said that the field set for the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 is pretty tough, which will keep the players motivated. Malcolm said that there are plenty of
players in the roster who are able to outshine their rivals, but some stand out the most.
She heaped praise on Shanshan Feng of China, saying the young star is going places these days and her participation in the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 is going to spice up the much-hyped event.
“I am very much looking forward to welcoming Shanshan Feng to Royal Liverpool after her historic victory last weekend and also, to seeing how she, and all the other golf stars, tackle Royal Liverpool for the
first time in a professional tournament,” Malcolm said while speaking to the media.
“I am also hoping to see as many of the Curtis Cup players as possible challenging at the Final Qualifying stage after witnessing their fantastic play at Nairn. The Curtis Cup was a wonderful way to launch
the build up for the 2012 Ricoh Women’s British Open”.
It remains to be seen how Reid fares against rivals and records her maiden major victory.
