Melissa Reid happy with performance at US Women’s Open 2012
English Melissa Reid, who could not live up to the expectations of her fans in the first round of the US Women’s Open 2012, shot a decent 69 to stand tied for the 45th position on the leaderboard.
Reid kicked off the second round in an impressive style, as she drained two back-to-back birdies on the first two holes. The English star then parred the next three holes and received heaps of applause once again after she posted her third birdie on the
difficult par-3 6th.
Despite getting off to a sensible start, Reid faltered on some holes as she had to battle not only fearsome rivals, but also sweltering heat.
She bogeyed the 8th hole, which seemed to rattle the star golfer. However, on the back nine, she regained her composure. She recorded a birdie on the 11th and then parred final seven holes.
Reid has been playing well in the current season, but she has not been able to prove her mettle on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour so far.
Having racked up four professional titles on the Ladies European Tour (LET), the English golfer is set to make a name for herself on the LPGA Tour as well.
Analysts said that due to not recording any victory on the LPGA Tour, Reid is not regarded as the hot favourite contender for the third major event of the 2012 season.
However, they said that the LET prodigy can pose a threat to her rivals at Kohler, as she as what it takes to stun the spectators.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Reid said that she is extremely happy with what she did on the second day of the prestigious tournament, and hopes to further move up in the third round.
“I played very good. Didn't really do much wrong. I felt like my swing was a little bit better than yesterday. I got a little bit tense yesterday. So just let it happen, played very steady. I think I missed three greens all day,” Reid said.
When asked how she tackled hot weather, she said: It was okay. “I think that's why we go to the gym, for that very reason we do get in positions like this sometimes and you get the other extreme when it's raining and you obviously get very tired”.
