Melissa Reid happy with performance despite finishing tied for the 50th spot
English Melissa Reid, who finished tied for the 50th position at the US Women’s Open 2012, appeared to be happy with her performance, although she could not impress her fans.
Reid could not make a solid start in the much-hyped major tournament, as she posted a 79 in the opening round. However, the English star tried to improve her standing by registering a 69 in the second round.
Speaking to the media during the tournament, Reid said that she is happy to be in US Open field that featured a number of top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars.
“Obviously you want to play on the weekend. After my round yesterday, obviously it would mean a lot. I kind of took myself completely out of the tournament yesterday, but a good round today has definitely given me a chance to -- you know, you never know, I could be 169,” the English golfer said of her second-round performance.
Reid said that she has always wanted to be on top of women’s golf world, but has been a little out of form lately.
Although she has grabbed one victory in the current season, she still has a long way to go before she can think of snatching the top spot in the world rankings.
Having racked up a title at the Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters, Reid appears to be in a high spirits. However, in the latest showdown at Kohler, she looked a bit under pressure, especially when she faced big names.
Since the 24-year-old star has been a prominent figure on the LET (Ladies European Tour), she has yet to gain respect on the LPGA Tour.
Having recorded four professional titles on the LET, Reid is usually regarded as one of the most talented players in Europe. However, she is still struggling to record a victory on the LPGA Tour, and has repeatedly vowed to atone for past lapses.
“It's been superb. From not just the LET, but from the LPGA. You know, past players, and the golfing world is like a big family because you are traveling with pretty much the same people week in and week out,” ambitious Reid said.
