Melissa Reid speaks about her fitness programme
Melissa Reid, who is a prominent golfer from England, recently talked to the media about her training routine and issues related to health and fitness.
Reid is part of the LET-run ‘Healthy May’ programme, and has been a known figure when it comes to fitness issues related to golf.
Speaking about her exercise programme, Reid said that she is following a tough schedule that is intended to make her disciplined. She said that swing power has been a matter of concern. However, thanks to rigorous
training on the practice range, she has fixed major issues.
The English star added that by doing plenty of power-work, her swing has become far better than it was a few months back. “I do a lot of power-work which benefits my golf because it basically means I have a
lot of control in my swing without having to jump out of my boots,” Reid said.
Fitness for golf had been a little off-topic in the sport’s circles, but over the past few years, it has become increasingly important for players to keep fit.
Back in the days, players would not pay much attention to fitness programmes and physical training, but the initiatives like “Healthy May” are triggering interest in players.
Reid went on to say she has always been an avid athlete, as she spent time playing football and other sports.
“Probably when I was about 16, I have had a Personal Trainer from that age. Sport has always been important to me growing up even before I started gym work – tennis, football, any type of sport so I have always
been into fitness,” she shared.
Reid kicked off her LET season in an impressive style, as she performed well at the Aberdeen Assert Management Ladies Scottish Open, held at Archerfield, in Links, Scotland. She finished tied for the fourth
position on the leaderboard.
Analysts said that the superstar has been putting in a tremendous effort, although she still needs to work on many lapses. For instances, at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open 2012, she could not show her usual
form, slumping to the 36th from the 22nd in the final round.
