Melky Cabrera, Eric Hosmer spark as Kansas City Royals humiliate Texas Rangers, 12-7 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals’ outfielder, Melky Cabrera and designated hitter Eric Hosmer both shined as Cabrera went 2-for-6 and Hosmer hit four RBIs in the Royals’ 12-7 victory over the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on May 27.
Hosmer went 4-for-7 and posted two runs for the Royals. Regarding his game plan, he said, “I was just thinking too much, thinking about what the pitcher was going to throw instead of just doing what I usually do, which is just reacting. It's all about adjustments
up here.”
Both teams were accelerating from the very first inning as the Royals scored three runs and the Rangers contributed five runs. Alex Gordon posted a single run off the drive of Cabrera, Hosmer scored one run on the shot of Wilson Betemit and Cabrera took
a third run for the Royals during the first inning.
For the Rangers, David Murphy hit a solo homer (420 feet) towards centre-field and Ian Kinsler homered (399 feet) to left-field. Josh Hamilton, Michael Young and Adrian Beltre each added three runs to get ahead of the Royals 5-3.
The Royals’ batters initiated their second inning with a blast as Chris Getz and Alcides Escobar both made two runs on the single-run shot of Hosmer to right-field. The third run was taken by Gordon when Billy Butler singled to right-field. On the other
side, Kinsler and Elvis Andrus added two runs for the Rangers. The score-card moved to 7-6 at the end of second inning.
The pitchers were on top from the third to eighth inning as they did not give away any runs in their respective pitches. The game was level 7-7 in the ninth inning when Gordon struck a home run (423 feet) to right-field. The Rangers’ Manager Ron Washington
commented on Gordon’s homer and said, “Gordon got it. The pitch he hit was 99 miles an hour. He earned it.”
Additional innings were given to break the tie but no score was added from both sides until 13th inning. Then, the Royals stepped on the gas and exploded five runs on the score-board to take a 12-7 lead in the 14th inning. Brayan Pena,
Hosmer and Cabrera each hit one-run homer while Butler and Betemit posted two runs in the end.
