Melky Cabrera shines as Kansas City Royals defeat Chicago White Sox 7-2 - MLB Update
Kansas City Royals’ centre-fielder, Melky Cabrera had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 4-for-5 with an average of .303 and hit one RBI including two runs in the Royals’ 7-2 win against the Chicago White Sox at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City on September
15.
Royals’ batters added two runs at the bottom of first inning and took a 2-0 lead. Cabrera struck a solo homer towards left-centre to post the first run for Royals. Salvador Perez singled off right-field and Billy Butler contributed the second run to give
the Royals a solid start. Jeff Francoeur advanced to third base and Johnny Giavotella moved to second base to end the first inning.
A.J. Pierzynski singled to left-field and Tyler Flowers walked during the second inning but Dayan Viciedo struck-out and Alex Rios flied out without adding any run for the White Sox. Similarly, Cabrera drove a shot towards centre-field but Alcides Escobar
and Alex Gordon both were unable to score runs and flied out at the bottom of second inning.
White Sox posted their initial run in the third inning to cut their deficit 2-1. Alexei Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field and Gordon Beckham added the first run for White Sox. Royals’ starter, Jeff Francis pitched six innings and had just two strike-outs
on his 102 pitches. He gave away eight hits, two runs, two walks and two earned runs with an ERA of 4.82.
At the bottom of the fifth inning, Royals’ first baseman Eric Hosmer scored a single run to give the Royals a 3-1 lead when Yamaico Navarro hit a single-run shot towards left-field and Perez advanced to second base. In the sixth inning, White Sox added one
run while Royals posted three runs to raise their lead 6-2.
Butler said, “I've had a string of a bad week or so. It's good to come out of it. I hit that ball good and did some damage with it.”
Paul Konerko contributed one run when Flowers hit a sacrifice fly to right-field. On the other hand, Butler struck a three-run homer to centre-field while Gordon and Cabrera both scored two consecutive runs for the Royals. Navarro again hit a sacrifice fly
towards centre-field and Perez scored the final run to end the game 7-2.
As a result, Royals led off the four-game series 1-0 against the White Sox after defeating them convincingly.
