Melky Cabrera taken aback by Chipper Jones' comments on his pelvis-thrusting gesture – MLB News
Pelvis-thrusting gesture that Melky Cabrera and Gregor Blanco made after the latter struck a home-run in the game had offended the Atlanta Braves’ third-baseman Chipper Jones. The 40-year-old was unhappy with the way both of them celebrated as he had stated
that he will not forget this.
After knowing that Jones is offended, Cabrera has now come up with an explanation. Cabrera clarifies that he has been making celebration in this manner since start of the season. Therefore, he believes, the comments by Jones’ on this have been surprising
for him.
Jones is going through his last season. Due to this, everyone is showing great respect for him. Acknowledgements of his greatness as a hitter are coming from both the current players and past legends.
Furthermore, the Braves are planning to organise a ceremony at the end of this season which will be dedicated to him. During which the services that he rendered for the club for such a long time will be talked about.
Similarly during the All-Star Game, Jones was showered great respect by everyone. His entrance on the plate had charged up the whole crowd, including the players in the field and the ones sitting in the dugout.
Therefore, the kind of reaction he witnessed from Cabrera and Blanco in the game was displeasing for him. It forced him to speak negatively about their celebration later in the game.
Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy has stepped in the matter to justify their celebration. He is of the view that their action was not meant to look down upon the Braves as they did it as part of their spontaneous reaction to the situation.
He elaborates that Melky is reticent and an introvert kind of a personality and therefore one cannot expect anything like this from him.
"No, I don't think Melky means to ... show up another club," Bochy said. "If you know Melky, he's quiet and goes about his business. I think it's more having fun out there than trying to show 'em up."
As the clarification has been given by Cabrera now, one will hope that the friendly relations Jones had with him in the past will remain intact.
