Melling, Curran, Atkinson and Hobgood qualify for Round of 48: Saquarema Surf Pro International
In the Men’s round of 96 of the Saquarema Surf Pro International, Adam Melling (Aus), Nathaniel Curran (USA), Dion Atkinson (Aus) and Damien Hobgood (USA) were completely dominant in heat 21, 22, 23 and 24 at Saquarema in Brazil, May 26.
Australian surfer, Adam Melling notched heat 21 with the highest score of 15.00, while Charlie Brown of Brazil earned second place honours with a total score of 12.67 and his countryman Pablo Paulino settled for third place with 11.20 points. Another Brazilian
surfer, Wiggolly Dantas captured the fourth place with a score of 10.30 in that heat.
After winning heat 21, Melling has booked his place for the Men’s round of 48 in the Saquarema Surf Pro International.
In heat 22, the surfer from USA, Nathaniel Curran claimed the highest heat score of 15.84 and consequently moved to the next round. Josh Kerr of Australian notched second spot with a total score of 13.73, while the French surfer Joan Duru clinched third
spot with 10.37 points and Gustavo Fernandes of Brazil wound up fourth with a total score of 9.76.
Meanwhile, Dion Atkinson of Australia took home heat 23 with a score of 15.97 and moved into the next round successfully. Royden Bryson (ZAF) placed second with a total score of 11.80, while Gabe Kling of USA earned third place honours with a mark of 11.53.
Jano Belo of Brazil wound up fourth with 9.66 points, a disappointing score for the local boy which saw him being knocked out of the championship along with American, Gabe Kling.
In heat 24, American surfer Damien Hobgood notched the highest heat score of 15.37 out of 20 and earned a place in the next round along with Mason Ho of Hawaii, who took second spot with a score of 12.30. The two surfers who couldn't make it to the next
round were Krystian Kymerson of Brazil, who settled for third place with 8.96 points and John Florence, who would want to completely erase this day from his memory; he scored 4.83 points.
The Men’s round of 48 will be held at Saquarema in Brazil on May 26.
