Has anyone lived in both cities or visited them both?

I currently live in Perth but want to maybe move to Melbourne soon?

How do they compare?

Which is better?

Thanks :)

  1. I think both Cities have their ups and downs. Perth has less to offer in terms of shops and fashion etc and is more expensive in that department. But it has better weather, a nice family atmosphere and lots of outside things to do, less smog etc. Right now its a better place to find a well paying job.

Melbourne has more variety shops restaurants etc and better proximity to other cities. Its weather is down right miserable compared to Perth (unless you like wet and cold). House prices are probably a bit cheaper but not much. Its a bigger city and less safe. I find it a bit overwhelming all the people pushing a shoving in places nothing like i've ever experienced in Perth but its a great place to live for a while when you're young. Its also good place for work if you are in fashion or entertainment.

  2. I'm from perth but visit Melbourne pretty much every year, and while Perth beats Melbourne for weather and beaches, Melbourne has such a variety of things to do definitely Australia's cultural capital. Beautiful buildings, museums, galleries, trams, and the huge variety of shops are open past 5pm! Both cities are good to live in but if you haven't guessed already I'd say Melbourne edges out Perth.

  3. Melbourne is a very trendy city.  It could get quite cold.

Perth is peaceful comparing to Melbourne.  If you're young and up for partying, Melbourne will be a great place to be.

I personally love Perth!  Best place to live.

  4. I was Born in Melbourne and moved to Perth when I was a little older. I have been to Melbourne to visit family many times. I would never live there espcially with young kids.

Last time I was there was in Jan just gone. I was walking along that main mall. I bumped into someone and I said sorry. The guy didn't even turn his head. If that had happened in Perth we both would have said sorry and then kept walking. Then we went to my cousin's rehursal dinner. I had a 4yr and a 6 month old. I tried to get a cab. I wanted to go from St kilda to Albert park and it was a freezing night. the first guy said it was not far enough. The second guy said that he would not take us because we didn't have a baby seat for my baby (I know Taxi's and buses are the only vehicals that you don't need one). Friend's and family were all drunk so there was no way of getting a lift with them. So I was forced to catch the tram at 8.30pm at night. First I had to get the pram on one of those trams from the eighties while holding my baby, nappy bag, purse and my son's hand. No one stood up to help me. Then when I was getting off some guy rushed passed me grabbed my bag I dropped my pram, Luckily my bub fell on her brother so she wasn't hurt bad and lost my purse a camera with all my xmas photos on it. I will never ever set foot in that city ever again.

My friend at 5pm after work had a knife pulled out on her on the tram while she was hugely pregnant with her first kid. The guy said to give him her bag or he would stab her stomach. She let him have her bag. And that was still in day light. She will never go back.

My husband's cousin is a drug addict there. And it just looks plain dirty!

I would never live there even if you paid me. It's horrible!!!!

  5. Mebourne is a gloomy and erratic city......If you enjoy the beach life I would advise you to avoid the city.....

  6. melbourne by far!

    it is cold!

    but so so so fun!

    so much to do!

    move into the city!

    :)

  7. It depends a lot on what your lifestyle is and what you want from life. For younger people born in Perth, I'd say go to Melbourne (or any city in Oz or overseas) and try it.

I spent a lot of time in Melbourne, I'm not young and I didn't like it much, apart from my favourite lap dancing club opposite 'The Age', and some nice restaurants the like of which do not exist in Perth.

    But thats me not you!
