Question:

Melt temp for VHS tape?

I have yet to find the answer, anywhere. So; what is the melt temp for 3/4" VHS tape (in F)? And if you know, what would be the burn temp for this tape (in F)? Is there anywhere where this is documented? This is for a fire investigation.

  1. I don't know but you should not see it as a VHS tape but as a material.

Find the type of plastic used and find the properties of that plastic.

Things like the film tape may flash (combust) easier and, although ambient temp wouldn't cause the tape to melt, the fuel inside could cause it to burn.

i'm pretty sure VHS tapes are mainly a polystyrene plastic
