Melvin Burgess' book Sara's Face? NO UNHELPFUL PEOPLE!?

OK, I heard that Melvin Burgess' book "Sara's Face" is based on a REAL case! I heard it on here. Could someone tell me (someone who knows what they're talking about) exactly WHAT crazy case this book could be based upon? E.g. who, what celeb, when? I never heard...Like someone else on here once said, they googled "Sara Carter" but nothing helpful appeared...?

This characters in this book are all fictional.  Melvin Burgess made up the plot;  he didn't base this story on any factual case.
