Melzer/ Petzschner triumph over Fyrstenberg/ Matkowski in title match – US Open 2011
Ninth seeded tandem of Austria’s Jurgen Melzer and Germany’s Philipp Petzschner stomped over sixth seeded Poles Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in straight sets to clinch the Men’s Doubles title at the US Open 2011. They
registered 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Poles to win the final of the four Grand Slam event held at the outdoor hard courts on Saturday.
The high spirited Austrian German duo flashed towards the major title after stunning the higher seeds in just forty-nine minutes at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park, of Queens, New York
City, United States. With their perfect co-ordination and flawless performance, the winning pair easily registered a straight set victory.
Melzer and Petzschner unleashed their tremendous skills right after entering the Arthur Ashe Stadium. They smashed blistering forehands with perfect timing and placing to reel off first four games in a row before their opponents
could hold on. The pair then held their serve twice again to seal the opener with a 6-2 score line in only twenty-two minutes.
The Austrian German tandem produced a lower first serve share of 57 percent as compared to the Poles’ 62 percent but registered a fabulous 83 percent win on it. To spice it further, they hammered nine winners and saved the only
breakpoint faced.
The winning combination of Melzer and Petzschner carried their momentum into the final set and held their opening serve to level the scores at 1-1. They got the first blood early on in the third game but squandered their lead in
the proceeding game to tie the scores at 2-2. However, the Austrian German team re-ignited their flames as they smashed massive groundstrokes to wipe out last four games in a row to win the set with a similar score line in under half hour.
The beaming team failed to fend off the only breakpoint faced but registered amazing stats to them. They clobbered a better first serve share this time around and earned a superb 92 percent win on it. Furthermore, the Austrian
German duo hit fourteen winners and converted three out of four breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to help win easily.
