Question:

Memento mori...remember you will die?!?

i read this phrase in the book "a series of unfortunate events".is it true that the phrase "memento mori" means "remeber you will die"?!the book says it a greek or latin word(i can't remember well if it's greek or latin).

could you please tell me if its true?

  1. I think you are right.  Either that or it means remember Morrie.  You know, the guy from "Tuesdays with Morrie".

    I loved that movie, "Lemony Snicket" by the way.  Shame it went splat.  I thought it was one of the best things Jim Carrey has ever done.

  4. It's Latin, and it does essentially mean "Remember You Will Die". "Memento" is actually a common word that means something to remember. "Mori" means death. You see it in words like "Mortician" and "Morgue".

  5. Latin. And it's kindofish true. I think there's somewhat of a different format, but I would consider it pretty darn close.

    I loved that series when I was younger, by the way.

    I hated the movie, though...
