Memorable moments of 2012 MLB Season – Part 7
There have been some amazing moments during the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. A testament to the fact that this year attendance was up across the board and there was a significant increase in the popularity of baseball throughout the season.
Obviously MLB is doing something right and the fans love every minute of it. The fact that a lot of teams are becoming more competitive across the Divisions is something good for baseball as a whole. Gone are the days when just one or two teams would dominate
the season and subsequent postseason. It seems that talent has spread across the league in a good way to boost some of the weaker teams in to contention.
As mentioned in the previous parts of this article, there have been numerous amazing moments throughout the 2012 MLB regular season. However, for me personally my favourite moment happened just before the start of the regular season.
Los Angeles Dodgers sold:
The Los Angeles Dodgers were finally sold to the group of investors which included former Los Angeles Lakers Magic Johnson. Most out West were relieved that someone they know and trust like Magic Johnson took over the reins of the financially struggling
Los Angeles Dodgers. A record setting $2-billion deal was agreed upon with the investors and the Dodgers had new owners.
The fans were happy that finally all of the drama could now be put to rest and the team could now focus on winning baseball games. The new owners made some dramatic moves which included a late season mega trade with the Boston Red Sox for some of their top
players. It looked like the Dodgers were heading in to a new era of dynamic moves and calculated risks. Unfortunately some of these moves did not pay-off as the Dodgers failed to make it to the postseason this year. Although, it should be noted that they barely
missed out on the playoff party as they did manage to finish the 2012 MLB regular season second behind the mighty San Francisco Giants in the National League West Division.
That is a very good sign for the Dodgers’ fans. Finishing only eight games behind the Giants and taking the second spot in the Division is nothing to laugh at considering the tumultuous start the Dodgers had before the season began. It looks like the new
owners are taking things very seriously and the best part is that they are hungry to win. It is a refreshing change that is welcomed by all of the Dodgers’ fans.
It is said that most people resist change because they don’t like it. However, in this case change is a good thing, especially for the Dodgers. The league seems to have opened their eyes to the concept of having a fair honest deal with actual market values
and not over inflated estimates that not only harm the potential for a team to get sold as nobody really wants to pay extra for something in a financial mess. This move by the Dodgers might set a new trend to get good high quality investors to help some of
the other teams which are currently struggling to manage their finances and survive.
The 2012 MLB regular season is over and the playoffs are now here. The excitement is building all the way to the coveted World Series. Whichever team wins it this year will top off the end to a tremendous year of baseball.
