Memorial Tournament: Branden Grace set to make a mark on the PGA Tour
The South African Branden Grace, who recorded three victories this year on the European Tour, is set to make the second start on the PGA Tour this year when he tees off at the Memorial Tournament, scheduled to start from Thursday, May 31, 2012.
He has now become one of the hottest sensations in the world of golf with his stunning record on the European Tour.
Recently, he also was not a part of the local qualifiers held on Monday for the US Open this year.
He missed the qualifiers as he is already listed among the top 60 players in the Official World Golf Rankings, which allows him to qualify automatically for the second major event of the year.
Right from the start of the 2012 European Tour season, he started outshining his opponents and recorded two consecutive wins in the Joburg Open and Volvo Golf Champions.
Thereafter, he went a little out of his form until he bounced back with a strong win at the Volvo China Open.
Last week, he participated in the BMW PGA Championship and finished at the fifth place on the leaderboard.
Therefore, he has every right to be confident while entering the strong field at the Muirfield Village Golf Club.
“He has just exploded this year,” said Charl Schwartzel, a fellow South African and the 2011 Masters champion. “He has always been a good player, and he has won three tournaments in a few months, and it has set him up”.
He is also aiming to list his name in the 2013 Presidents Cup, as he is currently 11th in the non-European international Presidents Cup standings.
Therefore, he has a good chance of making it to one of the most renowned team events in the golfing world.
Currently, Louis Oosthuizen, Schwartzel and Ernie Els are listed among the top 10 in the standings.
This shows a massive representation of South Africans. who are dominating the world of golf these days.
“They’ve just continually poured out good golfers,” Memorial host Jack Nicklaus said. “They’ve always had a bunch of good players. Gary obviously, and Retief (Goosen) and (Rory) Sabbatini. They produce some very good golfers and they produce some very good
athletes. It’s a very, very big sporting country”.
