Memorial Tournament to feature big names of golf
The 36th edition of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance is set is to begin at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio from May 31 to June 3, 2012 featuring seven of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Memorial has always been renowned for its strong field each year and the tournament officials have once again succeeded this year.
Luke Donald, the winner of last week’s BMW PGA Championship is confirmed to tee off on Thursday along with his rival for the top ranking in Official World Golf Rankings, Rory McIlroy.
Donald is confident to make another good run by recording low scores at Memorial in order to make maximum preparations for the upcoming US Open.
In the meantime, McIlroy missed two consecutive cuts in the last two tournaments he played.
Therefore, it is a good opportunity for him too to get back to his form prior to entering the US Open where he is scheduled to defend the title.
He also recently added the FedEx St. Jude Classic to his schedule in order to get the maximum practice before the second major event of the year.
“Excited about the next 3 weeks! Memorial, Memphis and then defend the U.S. Open,” McIlroy posted on twitter while moving to Muirfield Village on Monday.
Bubba Watson, the world number four and the reigning Masters Champion, has also decided to return to the Tour after spending some weeks with his family.
Watson has only played one event after he recorded the first major victory of his career this year and decided to spend some time with his newly adopted son.
The world number six, Justin Rose is also in the field for Memorial. He has a pretty decent record at the event, as he won the 2010 edition of the tournament.
In addition to that, he is also enjoying a good form on the tour that makes him a good contender at the venue.
He won the WGC Cadillac Championship and tied for the second place in last week’s BMW PGA Championship.
Overall, the Memorial tournament is, once again, expected to be the hottest competition this year as a non-major event.
