Can someone tell me how to be able to memorize all major and minor scales in all of the five patterns on the guitar? If you've achieved it, how?

Thanks :)

  1. The only way to learn the scale and remember them is to learn them in one position first.

If you know all the scales in one position, you should realize that all possible scales, majors and minors, in every key, are contained within 5 frets.

So if you realize this, then just change the key signature and you are set.

Ex.. If you learn the G-scale in the 3rd position, then the 3rd of G is B. Start your next position on B on the 6th string.

Then, the 5th of G is D....start the next position of the 6th at D.

Then, start at E on 6th string (this is the relative minor of G) .

Finally , back to G, which is a repeat of the 3rd position.

  2. the only way to memorize is to play it over and over,

trust me, it will become 2nd nature to you.

but yeah, i know that seems like pretty lame advice, but its golden

    good luck :]

  3. easy

    Practice

  4. Play your scales by using the formed major or minor chords as backdrop in each fret. For example, the C# chord of

X43121 may be used in each fret, other than the first, to play major scales. The same holds true for the Bbm chord in the first fret.

It's worked for me during my 52 years of playing guitar.
