Question:

Memory / Keepsake Box Padding?

by  |  earlier

I want to make a personalised keepsake / memory box for my little sister's christening. I have a great box I can use but I'd like to make it so it is slightly padded on at least the top. Would upholstery foam work for this, or is there something better I could use?

Also, how would I glue the product onto the box? It is a wooden box, if that helps. Also, how would I secure the fabric over it in a way that would be safe and permanent?

Please, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated as I've never done this specific thing before so I want to make sure I don't waste any time and money and potentially mess up!

Thank you!

  1. Yes it would work and you do it with glue.

  2. You could use craft glue or a glue gun with a little batting and some satin or velvet over it

  3. ARLENES  glue  sold  in craft  sections.  About   a  dollar.    I keep a  bottle  around  all time.  Bought  at  wal mart  fabric/craft  area. You might  stapel if have  stapler that  is  used  for wood.  You could  take your  idea  into craft  shop for  more suggestions.  GREAT  Idea,  good luck. *mamatx

  4. duct tape. that thar fixes darn near everythin'!

  5. Use a couple layers of poly batting (you can get it at most fabric stores) to pad the box. The polyester batting works wonderfully and when applying the fabric over it, you can pull extrememly tight so that you lose all wrinkles in the fabric and once you tack the fabric - I would use staples - the batting poofs back nice and plump -

To finish, use a coordinating felt cut just shy the inside of the size box. Glue over the entire underside (where staples were placed) with tacky glue - On the top, you could use small pearled beads and sew them on to decorate the box and make a more 3d look to it (if attaching and sewing on beads, do this prior to attaching to the box)

  6. I would use Quilters Batting and Spray Glue ;)))

  7. how about using quilting material. It's already filled with batting . WalMart will definitely have it. Cut to size and glue it on.
