Question:

Memory wire (strength).?

I have made a beaded bracelet out of memory wire that wraps around my wrist 2 and a half times. However since I have been wearing it for a few weeks, it has streched and feels like its going to fall off my wrist. Does anyone know if there are different types of strength to memory wire like thickness? The beads that I have used are not that heavy. Thank you.

  1. It's not the weight of the beads.  Memory wire is hardened steel.  I've been using it for bracelets for years; they sell really well.  The band on my own watch is made of Memory wire, and is full of glass beads which are not lightweight.  I generally replace it every year or two when it gets a little loose.  Having it stretch out after only a few weeks isn't normal.  My current watchband is over two years old, actually.

One batch of Memory wire that I bought turned out to have been improperly cured.  It had amnesia, I guess, because it hadn't been properly fired.  The company replaced it for me when I emailed them.  If you still have the packaging, write to the company and tell them your wire isn't working like it should.  I wear mine every day, and have it last a year or two.  That's how it's supposed to be.   Contact the company.  If you can't locate them (didn't have a package or some such thing) buy some real Beadalon brand Memory wire.  They stand behind their product, in my experience.  They replaced the bad wire at no cost to me.
