Memphis Grizzlies: A team to watch-out in the NBA Playoffs
The complete package of strength, defense, combined with superfluous athleticism has placed the Memphis Grizzlies at the pinnacle spot in the league and they will certainly be a team to watch-out in playoffs.
Many experts are making predictions for the upcoming playoffs. Although the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks are still in fairly a comfortable position and are among the favourites to win the Western Conference
but Grizzlies present an significant threat to the dominance of these elites.
Grizzlies are defensively sound. At present, not many teams can match their sheer physical dominance in the paint and their speed in transition. They are a team that if on song, can score a flurry of points in very little time,
a facet that can prove lethal against any team.
Grizzlies have shown their winning capacity in recent times as beating Mavericks three times in this season while beating Los Angeles Lakers on two occasions.
Winning from Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics were also a morale boosting performances. And when they thrashed the Top side San Antonio Spurs 109-93 on March 1, they certainly made people take notice.
With 36 wins and 30 losses Grizzlies currently holds the 8th position in the Western Conference. Their current roster is combination of youth and age. Grizzlies have some of the best players in their team at present.
The 24 year old forward Rudy g*y is injured due to a dislocated shoulder but soon he will be making a comeback as he was averaging 19.8 points per game before February 16.
g*y’s injury provided a very good opportunity to Tony Allen and he did not disappoint Grizzlies management on his selection as replacement of Rudy g*y. His average climbed from 7.8 to 13.3 points per game after coming as replacement.
The Grizzlies’ starters are the real asset for them. Big man, Zach Randolph, O.J. Mayo, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley are the key factor of their strength.
Randolph is currently averaging 20.2 points per game while O. J. Mayo’s 11.08 points per game, mostly off the bench, augurs well for their offensive strength.
Randolph, who was NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2004, has hit a purple patch this year. In this season, he has emerged as one of the most prolific post scorers and rebounders in the league and is a consistent double-double threat.
Shane Battier is the other threat for many opponents in the league. When the newly sign Battier will team-up with Mike Conley, Marc Gasol and Tony Allen they will virtually a team to watch.
