Memphis Grizzlies and Iran’s national team player Hamed Haddadi arrested on charge of assault
In a shocking turn of events, Hamed Haddadi, the Grizzlies backup centre from Iran and his girlfriend, Goolnaz Karbalaeinematmoeeney, have been charged with assault and arrested after an argument between the two shaped into quite a physical altercation on
Thanksgiving morning.
Hamed, the first Iranian to ever play in the NBA is a member of the Iranian National Team and was one of top performers in the 2010 FIBA World Championship, leading Iran and finishing in the Top 10 in the tournament as he averaged 20.0 points, 8.6 rebounds
complemented with 2.6 blocks in total of five games. He was also instrumental in guiding Iran to the 2007 FIBA Asian Championship, earning the country’s first Olympic berth in basketball since 1948.
His career at the Grizzlies has been rather subdued though. He last appeared on Nov. 3 at Golden State and has missed the following nine games due to being left inactive. The two-year pro holds career averages of 2.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.3 assists
in 55 games with the Memphis Grizzlies
Police say that the couple got into the altercation at about 5:35 a.m. Upon reaching the scene of the incident police found Goolnaz in a senseless condition. She had a couple of cuts on her head and hand and also endured a black eye and bruising around her
neck.
To make the matters more confusing both had entirely different explanations to offer for the incident.
In what seems to be a more realistic testimony for the time being Karbalaeinematmoeeney told police that Haddadi was disconcerted after he found her interacting with another man. He resorted to suffocating her and pushed her against the wall, an explanation
also supported by a female witness.
Haddadi, who suffered minor scratches on his face, on the other hand was adamant that the physical outburst arose after an amative attempt went haywire and Goolnaz fell from the bed.
This completely disgruntled her, prompting her to throw a soap dispenser at him, but in an inadvertent reaction he mistakenly bounced it back into her head, causing the injuries to her.
With such a shark contrast in the testimonies the police arrested them on the charge of assault and transported the couple to the Regional Medical center in non-critical condition.
