Memphis Grizzlies avenge their loss by routing Chicago Bulls 102-86 - NBA Recap
Chicago Bulls spoiled Memphis Grizzlies New year’s eve by handing them a 40 point mammoth defeat. On Monday night, both teams were in the same court yet again and this time the Grizzlies settled the score by routing the same team 102-86 that humiliated them
earlier.
Moments before start of the game, guard Mike Conley gathered the team mates and asked them to forget what happened earlier and attack with full throttle tonight. And they did listen
"That was the last thing I said to them: `That was an embarrassing loss. Let's go out there and just play hard and leave it all out there on the court. I thought guys really took that to heart" Conley said”
Bulls, who were playing without their star Derrick Rose, struggled right from the start. Taking advantage of this, Grizzlies attacked right from the word go and by the end of the first half, had completely turned the game in their favour, ahead by 20 points
58-38.
Things got worse for Bulls in the third frame after Grizzlies opened it with an 11-4 run, capped by Rudy g*y’s turnaround shot, to boost the lead to 27 points, 69-42. Bulls however showed some urgency and replied with a fierce 24-8 spurt to close the third
frame at 66-77.
Bulls needed to fire right from the start of the deciding frame to get themselves back in the game, however the opposite happened. Marc Gasol, g*y and Mike combined and fuelled a 15-8 to again boost the lead further.
Bulls failed to make a comeback and lost the game with a massive margin in the end.
"I don't think we did a good job mentally preparing for them. We should have been ready for that," Bulls Luol Deng said of the potential retaliation factor. "We should have known that anytime you beat a team like that in the NBA, next time, they can't wait
to see you. We should have been more prepared."
Deng scored 20 points on 8 for 18 from the floor. Reserve CJ Watson pounded 17 while Taj Gibson accumulated 16 on 6 for 8 from inside the arc.
Rudy g*y led the Grizzlies with a game high 24 points while Conley had 20 points. Marc Gasol (19 points, 10 boards) and Marreesee Speights (16 points and 12 rebounds) successfully completed a double-double.
Grizzlies were outstanding with their shooting and shot a healthy 54.1% from the floor. They also out-rebounded the Bulls 46-34.
