Memphis Grizzlies blow past Miami Heat with big three point shooting night – NBA Recap
The Miami Heat only lost their second game of the season on Sunday night at the FedExForum when they were defeated by the Memphis Grizzlies, who moved to a 5-1 record this season. The Grizzlies outscored the Heat 34-20 in the second period and then again 28-20 in the final period to take a convincing 104-86 victory in the end. Wayne Ellington came off the bench to lead the Grizzlies in scoring, finishing with 25 points while going 7 of 11 from the distance. Rudy g*y finished with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists while going 7 of 17 from the field. LeBron James finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Grizzlies opened the game with a three pointer by g*y, and quickly raced to an early 10-2 lead. Miami came back with an 8-0 run of their own to tie the game at 12. Four back to back free throws by g*y followed by a turnaround jump shot by Marc Gasol put the Grizzlies back up 20-14. James scored a pull up jump shot in the final seconds of the game to have the Heat trailing 21-22 at the end of the first period.
The Grizzlies opened the second period on a 7-2 run which extended their lead to 29-23, but a three pointer by Rashard Lewis had the Heat back within 2. Ellington then scored back to back three pointers, and Mike Conley later went on a personal 7-0 run followed by another three by Ellington to cap off a 10-0 run by the Grizzlies and extend their lead to 52-40. Both teams went into the half time break with the Grizzlies leading 56-41, after outscoring the Heat 34-20 in the second period.
Miami opened the third period with an 8-5 run, but the Grizzlies were still up 61-49. Miami later compiled another 9-0 run that cut into the Grizzlies lead and had the Heat trailing 58-63, but the Grizzlies replied with an 11-0 run of their own to bring the lead back to 74-58. The Grizzlies led 76-66 at the end of the third period.
Ellington scored a three pointer in the fourth period, followed by back to back field goals by g*y which was capped off by another three by Ellington that put the Grizzlies up 95-76. Quincy Pondexter then put the icing on the cake with a three pointer to give the Grizzlies a 98-76 lead, which they carried till the end of the game and won 104-86.
The Grizzlies shot an amazing 14-24 from three point range, where as Miami were only 4 of 15 from the same distance. Miami also missed 14 of their 36 free throw attempts. Chris Bosh added 22 points and 8 rebounds but apart from James and Bosh, no one else from the Heat roster was able to deliver on the night. Dwyane Wade went 3 of 15 from the field for 8 points, and Ray Allen finished with 5 points, going 2 of 7 from the field.
