Memphis Grizzlies centre Hamed Haddadi faces a lawsuit – NBA Update

Almost a year ago on the Thanksgiving morning, Hamed Haddadi, the Iranian basketball player who plays as a backup centre from Memphis Grizzlies and his girlfriend, Goolnaz Karbalaeinematmoeeney, were charged with assault and were
arrested after an argument between the two escalated into a physical altercation.
In the initial police investigations, both gave contrasting accounts of what really happened. Goolnaz, who had a couple of cuts on her head and hand and also endured a black eye and a bruising around her neck, has asserted at that
time that she was shoved to the wall and choked, but later dropped the charges in the court.
However as per a report the now estranged girlfriend has reached the court once again and is trying to claim the damages for the assault, something which Haddadi has maintained was an amative attempt gone haywire. According to
Commercial-Appeal;
“The former girlfriend of Memphis Grizzlies backup centre Hamed Haddadi filed a civil suit Tuesday, claiming that an altercation in his Downtown apartment last year left her with scars, post-traumatic stress and bills for medical
and psychological treatment. She was intoxicated, bleeding from her head and hand and had a black eye and bruising around her neck, according to an affidavit.”
For scars, traumatic stress and physiological and medical treatment, the 22-year-old Moeeny is reportedly seeking 250,000 dollars in damages.
According to the police documents, the reason Hamed had an altercation with Moeeny was because the Iranian superstar was upset about his girlfriend being involved with another man.
Haddadi is the only basketball player in NBA from Iran and he is currently playing for the Iranian Basketball Super League’s Melli Haffari Ahvaz. Despite of having a gigantic physique, Hamed Haddadi never had a chance in NBA to
play consistently. Memphis Grizzlies signed the centre in 2008 and since then he has been benched mostly.
That does not mean that he doesn’t possess talent. He was one of top performers in the 2010 FIBA World Championship, leading Iran and finishing in the Top 10 in the tournament with an average of 20.0 points, 8.6 rebounds complemented
with 2.6 blocks in a total of five games. In the last edition of FIBA Asia as well, he was by far the best centre and with Yao Ming no longer playing the game, he is best centre in Asia.
