Memphis Grizzlies centre Marc Gasol not interested in playing for FC Barcelona: NBA Update
After Minnesota Timberwolves Spanish point guard recently revealed that he will only play for FC Barcelona if the NBA Lockout costs the whole 2011-12 season, there are reports that Memphis Grizzlies centre Marc Gasol is also not
interested in playing for the Spanish for the time being.
Barcelona is not an unknown name in the sporting circles. FC Barcelona is the premier football team in the world and has been ruling the Spanish LA Liga for quite some time now. The basketball team is also not behind so far they
have won seven ACB championships out of the preceding 13 and also won a Liga ACB, Cup in 2003.
Gasol’s perspective is simple. He doesn't believe that it would be fair-minded to return to FC Barcelona, as he would be looking to get back to the States as soon as the accord is reached on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
This could hamper Barcelona’s team combination and he believes that such an act would be "selfish" and that's not the way he does things.
Other than individual players reason of not to play in Europe, one of the key reason of not playing is that the European teams follow strict plans and usually hesitate a lot in changing or rotating their roster. This wouldn’t allow
NBA stars to spend much time on the court during the game, whereas the players will try to grab as many minutes in the game as they can.
So this conflict is not good for the game, thus NBA players’ sees more potential in the Chinese Basketball League. They believe the China is a bigger market and with some good cash the players can spend more time in the game and
will get other leverages as well in contrast to the European teams.
Gasol played a sheet anchor role in Memphis’ postseason run and is ranked as one of the elite centres in the entire league. Although he is not as good as Dwight Howard is, but still he can gave a tough time to his opponents any
day.
Barcelona on the other hand, stands strong without Gasol, as they had earlier achieved many victories without the 26 year old. However, if the entire season wipes out then with the inclusion of Gasol FC Barcelona will really look
mighty.
