Memphis Grizzlies crush Golden State Warriors, 110-91 at home
NBA: Golden State Warriors got defeated for the straight time as the Memphis Grizzlies launched a 110-91 assault in a ragingly defensive game, Wednesday night at the FedEx Forum, Memphis. The game was very memorable as the Memphis celebrated their first
42 victories season since the season of 2005-06.
Tony Allen led all the winning team with 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds along with dishing out four assists in 34 plus minutes. The player even baffled the opposition and made the coach of Golden State, Keith Smart compliment him by saying, "The guy
who has been playing very well over the last two weeks or so with his defense is Tony Allen in the passing lanes and going to the offensive glass.''
Mike Conley contributed 20 points along with team best seven assists on an 8 for 13 overall shooting. The guard also clinched two 3-pointers to add fuel to the game.
Dorell Wright scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds in the loss whereas Vladimir Radmanovic scored 11 points in an off the bench game, also hitting three 3-pointers in the loss.
A margin of as many as 16 points from the painted area gave the Grizzlies another plus point to edge past Golden State. Grizzlies dished out 28 assists in the game whereas the Warriors had 19.
The Grizzlies who were trailing by as many as 10 points in the third stanza accelerated in defence to surpass the Warriors en route a massive performance by Allen. Zach Randolph clinched a double-double for the winning team by posting 20 points, grabbing
13 rebounds and dishing out six assists in 32 plus minutes.
It was hard to imagine that the Grizzlies would reconcile after the Warriors posted five points in a row to excel to a 58-48 lead over the Grizzlies in the second half. Although they did outscore them at that time, but Memphis went ahead with a surge and
surpassed them by 31-14 in the same quarter. Allen made three steals in that frame and the Grizzlies overpowered the Warriors with a flickering defence that helped them seal the lead in their own favour.
The Grizzlies had the best shooting night of the season. They triggered a 56.5 shooting percentage after failing to register five opening shots of the game but they were tenacious the rest of the way. They headed past the opposition by notching 48 out of
upcoming 80 shots. The winners made the victory even bigger by accomplishing seventh straight home game with a .500 shooting rate.
Allen later said that it was not the best first half of the year but his team stuck with it and responded positively to the coach’s halftime scolding. Regarding what the coach said to the team, the player added, “He said we need to get back to doing what
we do and that's playing hard at both ends. We were able to pull it out simply because we locked in at the defensive end and played at our pace.''
The Warriors were without Monta Ellis in the last two minutes of the game who had to leave because of a strained right ankle. The young player had 16 points in 30 plus minutes of action to go along with four rebounds.
After this win, the Grizzlies remain unbeaten at home and this victory improved them to a 14-0 at Memphis. They are the best team of NBA with a 17-1 record as a whole in these types of games.
