Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph wants to play overseas with Marc Gasol: NBA Update
On July 1st, the National Basketball Association (NBA) locked out its players over labour turbulence with the Players Union and since then, this work stoppage has been a headache for all the individuals, who are directly
or indirectly related to the NBA.
Among many other disadvantages, this lockout is also forcing many players to play overseas. Many players have already signed with different international basketball clubs and some are still thinking to go abroad and play basketball
on foreign soil.
However, there is one player who wants to keep the tandem with his team-mate even during the lockout.
Recently, Memphis Grizzlies’ forward Zach Randolph stated in the media where that he will consider the overseas option if the Labour dispute lingers on for a long time. He however was adamant that his first choice will be a club
for which his fellow big Marc Gasol will play.
“I’m going to wait and see what’s going on Nov. 1, that’s when I’ll make a decision. And then I’m going to see what Marc is doing. I’d like to go wherever he goes. I’d want to talk to him and stick with my big fella.”
Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol play alongside in the Memphis Grizzlies. The duo was inspirational in orchestrating the brilliant run of the Grizzlies last season. During that stretch, the Grizzlies tore apart more fancied oppositions
one after another. Their surge reached its peak when they tumbled over the mighty San Antonio Spurs in the first round of playoffs. They then took the Oklahoma City Thunder right to the brink, but were denied by the brilliance of Kevin Durant.
Randolph has already indicated that he wants to go a step further next season and this statement is being considered as a step in that direction. If Randolph’s wish materializes, both he and Gasol will be potentially heading to
Europe and most probably to Barcelona.
Randolph also spoke about the ongoing lockout and showed his full support to the Players Association.
“If that's a sacrifice we have to make (in order) to make it better for the future then, yeah, I'm OK with it, I'm definitely prepared financially. I sent a text to Billy Hunter two weeks ago and told him he has my full support,
All of the players should stick together.”
The negotiations between the NBA owners and the Players Association are still in progress, but no positive development has been made so far.
