Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen excited about the return of Rudy g*y – NBA Update
Memphis Grizzlies star Tony Allen cannot wait for Rudy g*y to come back into the side as he looks forward to the next NBA season.
g*y suffered a serious shoulder injury midway through last season which ruled him out for the remainder of the season, as well as the playoffs. Before he got injured, the player was the undoubted star of the Memphis Grizzlies roster,
even putting the likes of Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol in the shade.
Tony, who established himself as an on court leader at the Grizzlies last season, is looking forward to g*y’s return.
“I’m looking forward to having him back at full strength,” Allen said in an interview with Hoopsworld. “He’s going to come back full throttle and help us make a further run.”
The Grizzlies mounted a stunning playoff run last season. Ranked as the eighth seeds in the Western Conference, they exceeded all expectations to defeat the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs. They even gave the
Oklahoma City Thunder a very tough time before bowing out in seven games, and Allen believes the side could do even better with Rudy back.
How much better? Allen thinks they can have a go at the NBA World Championship.
“When we were in the playoffs, I was trying to keep his spirits up. I always told him, ‘We’re playoff good without you, but we’re championship good when you come back.’”
The player in question is now almost back to fitness. His injury was a very serious one, but g*y has worked hard at his rehabilitation and looks set to comeback healthy and in great shape soon enough. Allen can testify to that.
“I saw Rudy work out this summer when we played in the league in Las Vegas. He’s been working hard, hitting the weights, conditioning and shooting a lot of shots. He’s pretty much back to his old self and I’m excited. Now, we just
have to see how coach is going to put this bowl of gumbo together.”
g*y is often considered a below par defender, but that is not an area of weakness for Memphis, who have defensive pillars such as Tony Allen and the fast improving Marc Gasol.
With Rudy, Memphis believe they would have the star power, they need to finally stand toe to toe with the more glamorous sides in the NBA. His pairing with fellow forward Zach Randolph on the court is also set to give Memphis much
more options in attack and a headache to opposition defences.
