Memphis Grizzlies own the third quarter to beat the New York Knicks – NBA Recap
The streak has finally been broken.
Coming into Friday night, the New York Knicks were the only team left in the season not to have lost a game. However up against a resurgent Memphis Grizzlies side, which had itself won six in a row before the night, the Knicks
just didn’t have the answers.
Zach Randolph erupted with 20 points and hauled down 15 rebounds while Marc Gasol added 24 points and 7 rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies thumped the Knicks 105-95 victory. Rudy g*y also had 17 points and four blocks and point
guard Mike Conley ended the game with 16 points and eight assists.
The Knicks had 20 points from Carmelo Anthony, 18 from Raymond Felton and 13 from Rasheed Wallace on a night, on which they shot 51.4 percent from the floor, but failed to prevent the leakage on the second chances. Off the 12 offensive
rebounds that the Grizzlies grabbed in the game, they scored 22 points. The Knicks had 10 on 10 and that ended up to be the deciding factor in the game.
The Grizzlies have now got the best record in the league with seven wins in 8 games. They knocked down 5 of their first six shots to take a 10-4 lead right at the start of the game, but were soon pulled back by the Knicks, who
led 13-11 near the midway mark of the frame.
An 11-4 Grizzlies run followed to make it a five point game, and they went on to finish the first half at 29-25.
The Knicks ate into the deficit quickly in the second and a Steve Novak three pointer with 6:48 to go till the break handed the Knicks a 37-36 lead. Grizzlies scored the next five and then did the same right at the end of the half
to take a 54-49 lead.
Memphis changed the game for good in the third quarter. Paced by Gasol, Tony Allen, Randolph and g*y, they launched a 21-3 burst to make it 77-56, and there was no coming back for the Knicks after that.
Grizzlies outscored the Knicks by 13 in the third, and despite some quick scoring by the Knicks in the last 12 minutes, their win was never in doubt.
