Memphis Grizzlies produce a stunning fourth quarter to sink Golden State Warriors 91-90: NBA
After chasing the Golden State Warriors for most of the game, the Memphis Grizzlies produced a sensational exhibition of offensive artistry in the fourth quarter to stun the hosts 91-90.
Trailing by as many as 20 points deep in the third quarter, the Grizzlies pulled off a maverick performance in fourth quarter and outscored the Warriors 39-22 to stretch their winning streak to seven games. Rudy g*y led the Grizzlies with 23 points and 9 rebounds while Mike Conley scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half to go along with 9 assists. Marc Gasol had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Tony Allen had 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Warriors were led by 20 points from Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry had 18.
The Warriors entered the fourth quarter with a 62-58 advantage and made it an 18 point game on Beno Udrih turnaround jumper inside the first 40 seconds. The next two minutes saw the Warriors conceded six points on a trot, but Ellis and Curry combined for five points after that to push the Warriors advantage to 75-58.
The Grizzlies missed three attempts on goal in the next minute, but finally got going with a three points play from Tony Allen. It was immediately answered by a three from Brandon Rush and at 78-61 with just 7:26 remaining the Warriors looked set to garner a 4th consecutive home win against the Grizzlies.
Or so they thought.
In the passage that followed, the Grizzlies pulled off a spectacular comeback with a 28-6 run and took an 89-85 lead with just 10.8 seconds remaining in the game.
The Warriors stunned by the onslaught took a time out, but Stephen Curry missed a three in the play. Rush however managed his first rebound on the offensive zone and made a tip in to keep the Warriors alive. Dorrell Wright then immediately fouled O.J. Mayo, but to the desperation of the Oracle Arena crowd, the reserve guard managed to slip in both his attempts from the charity stripe.
The game was already lost by that time, but Ellis knocked down a three with 0.06 seconds remaining to make it 90-91.
