Memphis Grizzlies star Zach Randolph says being left handed gives him advantage – NBA Update
Zach Randolph was a marked man during the playoffs last season.
The power forward, who is one of the best low post players in the league, was the focal point of the Memphis Grizzlies attack, and thus the focus of their opponents defence.
However for all their efforts, not many teams were able to stop, or even slow down the big guy.
Randolph is a left hander in a league filled with righties, especially the big men. That definitely gives him an advantage when coming up against people in the post.
The player gave an exclusive interview to Sports Radio Interviews and admitted that being left handed was a big plus for him.
“Oh definitely. The scouting report is left hand, left hand, left hand, but most of the league is right handed so a lot of guys push me left. It’s definitely an advantage for me. The game is fundamental in skills and I feel I got
a lot of that. I’m not the most athletic guy in the world, but I know how to play the game and have a good knack for the ball.”
Randolph was certainly a beast in the paint during last season’s playoffs. The Memphis big proved himself to be a juggernaut that rolled over anybody in his path. Z Bo used his sheer bulk and slick skills to devastating effects,
even against accomplished defences such as the San Antonio Spurs.
The results were significant as the Grizzlies knocked out the western Conference first seed and progressed into the Western Conference Semifinals for the first time in their history.
Randolph continued his dominance in that series as well. His thrilling form even prompted Kevin Durant, of the Oklahoma City Thunder, to label him as “the best power forward in the league”.
Durant ultimately got the better of Randolph and ended his playoffs adventure, but the Grizzlies man is not one to stay down. He is already working for the next season, getting his teammates fired up and seems confident that Memphis
will be a major force in the NBA within a few years.
“Just continue to work, stay in shape, and come in and really try to win a championship. I’m talking to my guys about winning a championship. Rudy g*y is coming back and we’re gonna add another piece. I think we’ll be able to compete
with anybody.”
Randolph has established himself as terrific post scorer in the last few years and there are not many in the league today who can stop him.  However to build on last years’ success, the important factor for Grizzlies will be whether
his teammates can deliver.
