Memphis Grizzlies suspend O.J. Mayo for 10 games
O. J. Mayo has been suspended by the NBA for the next 10 games without pay for violating the drug policy.
This decision came after a positive drug test on Thursday. The NAB’s drug policy is very strict and every player has signed the contract according to the rules and regulations set by the association.
He himself was very disappointed and came out to his fans and shared his disappointment on this decision.
"It was an honest mistake, but I take full responsibility for my actions, He stated as I apologize to my fans, teammates and the Grizzlies organization for regrettably not doing the necessary research about what supplements I can put in my body".
He was suspended due to the dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). The banned supplement cost him in a huge number. He is now going to miss the next 10 games for the Grizzlies.
With the playoffs around the corner, this was a setback for the team. His performance made him the player to look out for in the team. He was the No. 3 pick overall in 2008 after only one season at USC.
After his suspension his team owner, Michael Heisley, is confident that he will come back with new energy. He stated an interview that “O. J. will keep practicing with the team during his suspension period”.
He further stated that "O.J. had a lack of judgment but has shown complete accountability”, Heisley said in another statement. "We will continue to support O.J. during this time as we have from the moment he joined the team in 2008. He has unselfishly done
everything we have asked of him, and we expect him to grow as a player and a person from this experience".
The young star is performing at an average 12.2 point per game. He is still a long way ahead in his career. At 23 his professional career is already jumbled with controversies.
Now is the time that he must be serious in his trade. The next game starts at Philadelphia, which he is going to miss. After his suspension period, He will be coming back on 15 February against the 76ers.
