Memphis Grizzlies take game-2; level series against Los Angeles Clippers with 105 – 98 victory – NBA Recap - Part 1
The Memphis Grizzlies put the disappointing game-1 loss behind them with a workmanlike win over the Los Angeles Clippers here at the FedExForum. The Grizzlies were efficient throughout the night and executed much better in the final 12 minutes as they homed
in on a 105 – 98 win to level their Western Conference first round playoffs matchup with the Clippers at a game apiece.
"That was tough to lose in the fashion we did, then have to sit there and watch it on ESPN every day and the miraculous comeback and that stuff," Grizzlies forward Rudy g*y said, indicating that the loss earlier served as motivation for his side.
"That's what kind of had us come in here today and play like we did.... We didn't have any lapses like we did before."
The Grizzlies had 6 players in double figures for the game, led by small forward Rudy g*y, who netted team high 21 points and he had 5 boards. Power forward Zach Randolph showed some good touches as well, ending the game with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Others who reached the double digit mark for Memphis included O.J. Mayo with 20 points, Tony Allen with 10, Marreese Speights with 11 and Mike Conley with 19. He also had 6 assists.
"We'll get some good rest tonight and go to L.A. for two more games," Mayo said. He was key to the Grizzlies win, especially because of his scoring off the bench. Guard Tony Allen appreciated that fact.
"I got to give a big credit to O.J. Mayo," Allen said. "He opened the game up for us."
The Clippers started off better, going on a 12 – 5 run from jump ball. Clippers kept the Grizzlies at an arm’s length most of the first quarter but the home side used a 6 – 2 burst at the end to close the gap to 26 – 23.
In the second period Grizzlies made serious inroads. An 8 – 2 sprint put them ahead at 31 – 30. The Grizzlies also had a 6 – 0 spurt later that got them to 43 – 37. Los Angeles though made sure not to fall behind too much and at halftime were trailing by
just 4, the score 51 – 47.
