I'm starting my skating lessons soon, where can I buy a pair of good skates? I bought a generic brand which did not support my ankle, I want something good with quality. Which brand do you recommend? What are the national competitors wearing?

Many thanks!

  1. Since you are a beginning skater it is important to have good ankle support, but you also don't want to have too much support because you will have problems not being able to bend enough. Riedell skates are excellent skates for a beginner and their skates can also cater to the more advanced level skater. Their Blue ribbon or Bronze Medallion are good skates for a beginning skater to start out in. Going to your local skating pro shop is the best place to get skates. The national competitors wear all different brands of skates, many wear Harlick, Riedell, Sp-Terri, Klingbel or some other type of skate, most of them are custom skates. Good luck!

  2. If you are JUST beginning skating lessons, you don't want what national competitors are wearing. A: they are very expensive and B: they are very strong skates, designed for doing high level elements.

You can go to a figure skating store and ask them what skates you should be looking at, as I don't know how old you are, what you are looking to achieve. If you could provide a little more information, I could help you out a little more.
