Question:

Men and Polygamy?

I find it interesting that so many men (not all) like the idea of polygamy (as long as it is 1 man with multiple women; not the other way around) but fail to realize that monogamy benefits men more than anyone else. Do the math - If 1 man gets 4 wives - that mean 25% percent of men get 100% of the women. What happens to the other 75% of men - they get no one.

So why do men think polygamy is so cool? I know they have fantasies about being the alpha male with all the women but realistically, they have a higher probability of being the guy who is alone with no woman, no children, no companionship, no s*x, etc. Sounds pretty lousy to me.

  1. polygamy-=multiple wives

    MONOTONY= one wife..

  2. I think men may like the fantasy of polygamy, not necessarily the reality.  They can do the math, and most of them want a happy wife.

    Remember the FLDS polygamy controversy?  After puberty, most of the boys are weeded out and expelled on some pretext; otherwise men could not acquire the 3 wives necessary to get into heaven.  The expelled boys, unaccustomed to modern life and believing they are damned, have a rough time of it.

  3. I'm a man and I think your assumption is ridicules. Given the unpredictability of women as well as moodiness and pure aggression women often exhibit who gets the advantage. I think the women would get a much better deal in a polygmist situation.

  4. Not really a big fan of polygamy, but it seems to work out like that anyway, for men & women. The glamorous ones get all the attention, movie stars have many spouses in succession. The nerdy-est get left alone.

  5. I understand your logic, but I don't think it is as simple as that. first you need to look at the population. Across the world there are (last time I checked) 3 x more woman than men. So if we were to use your logic most men would be able to have more than one wife.

    Second, I would argue that it makes no sense as a person would have to please 4 wives or husbands rather than one.

  6. First of all, your math is wrong, it is 100% of the male getting 100% of the female x 4.

    Anyway, the thought of putting up with any more than one woman scares the h**l out of me. That would be 100% of the male getting 100% of the nagging x 4. Sure it would be nice to be a wealthy playboy like Hugh Hefner for a few years and have a revolving door of hot babes coming in and out of the bedroom, but that is not polygamy, that's a good time. However, once things get serious, one woman is plenty enough trouble.

  7. Women have been dehumanized (i.e., seen as objects) by our culture. It's seen as an "idealized" state. That is a state of affairs (pun intended) that has no down side. Very few men (and I would guess women) would put themselves in the 75% group.  It's like reincarnation: most people would comeback  as people that are poor, or sick, etc.  However, if you ask someone they would come back as a Brad Pitt or a Angela Jolie type (healthy, rich, & famous).

  8. I never found the idea of polygamy to be cool, in fact I find it downright disgusting and morally wrong.

    I think alot of men are just immature and not secure enough to handle a relationship, honestly.

  9. Not this man. One wife is plenty for me.

  10. who cares about the fairness to other men if you have four women.

  11. That's disgusting.  The next thing you know, g*y people will want to marry.  The government needs to protect people from perversion.
