My husband is from mexico city and was there until he was about 15. I met him when he was 20 and weve been married for 6 years. the problem is we fight a lot, and i think a lot of it comes from our cultural differences. Im a white american and he is very much into his mexican culture. I have learned to speak spanish fluently in order to relate to his family but it just isnt enough for him. So my question is, what do other mexican men think of white women? what can i do to improve or change what his stereotypes of white women are? Sometimes i feel like he would rather be with a mexican woman

  1. Lady, i'll tell you this in spanish since you're fluent:

Estas haciendo un mar en un vaso de agua.

If you're husband would be a caucasian american, would you being this naive and pointing towards races as being the source of your problems? Probably not, so better get to a shrink that will help you realize what problems are really there!!

  2. Hi im from Mexico City, and let me tell you, this is very personal, overhere we love white womans because we dont have it so we really like white womans. but also our family is very important for us, i dont see any problem.

In Mexico city we have our own culture but we are very influences of the american culture, you can come here and see a lot of Americas lifestyle.

Believe we really llike white womans, so just try to relate with his familly and you dont have any problems.

    Good Luck.

  3. you should probably talk to your husband and get to know him a lil. and he has to learn to trust and talk to you.

  4. I'm not a Chilango, but I have a latina GF, so I can relate.  Remember there is more than one thing going on here.  Men and women have differences and then there are cultural difference.  I lot of your problems probably come from not understanding the differences between men and women.  Both of you should pick up Men are from Mars - Women are from Venus.  Cultural differences are a problem, but they don't make people argue all the time.

With my GF it gets tough because she doesn't want to date latin guys because they are more controlling, etc.  But she doesn't want to have the independence and self sufficiency that American women have.  It is really tough of on me to be the best of both cultures and none of the bad things from either.  Normally you have to take the good with the bad.

Maybe that's part of the problem in your relationship.

  5. mexican men love white women.

I'm not a guy, but i'm Mexican and my mom is from Mexico City, born and raised there, and i've been to Mexico City about 16+ times...

and my (male) cousins in Mexico City are like 18, 19, 20, 22 years old...so i've gotten to know how Mexican men are.

do you and him have any kids together?

he most likely will want to raise them as full Mexican...and maybe that's not ok with you...

you two have to talk this out.

you won't be able to change his sterotypes about white women....he's lived in Mexico City for a good amount of time, so he's well imersed in his culture...

more than anything, your arguing i believe has to do with the way you and him were raised.

he was raised in Mexico city as a kid, and so he's grown up to his customs over there...just like you have grown to your customs in the US...

my parents are both Mexican...and they argue like brother and sister, 24/7.

it's not a culture thing...they're both Mexican...it has to do with the way they were raised.

my mom's family is more educated and has a higher class than my dad's family....i'm not saying my dad's family is poor, but when my parents argue, i've observed that it all comes down to the way they were raised.

see, so it's not a cultural thing....it's just a personal issue between you and your husband...

    talk to him.
