Well, my purpose in proposing was to secure a wife.  I asked the first one after knowing her all summer.  It hurt like h**l when she said no, but now, years later, knowing what a mess she's made of three successive marriages, I can't thank her enough for saying no to me!  I asked the second one after knowing her for six months, and we had a tumultuous twenty years and four kids together.  I asked the third one after knowing her ten months, and we're on our 18th year on our way to forever together.
